2,400 Precast Stadia, 19,000 Steel Pieces, 830 Daily Workers, and More Exciting Updates

New Nissan Stadium

February was a busy month on the new Nissan Stadium construction site —here’s a quick rundown of the latest updates!

The Terrace Level (300-level) concrete deck on both sidelines are making serious progress as it moves to the east for a fully connected concourse. We poured up to the 50-yard line late in the month, and by mid-May, all the concrete concourse deck pours for the Terrace Level will be wrapped up.

Over at the plants in South Carolina and Georgia, production of precast pieces that will form the stadium seating bowl is in full swing. They’ve cranked out just over 500 pieces so far, with a total of about 2,400 precast pieces needed to complete the bowl. On Feb. 3 we started with the first pieces of precast stadia installation and through this month we have installed 150 of these precast pieces on the west end of the lower bowl. Eventually our friends at Irwin Seating will go in and place the seats – it’s really coming together!

Meanwhile, on the steel side of things:

Steel assembly is already underway, focusing on the outside columns and main entry frames first. We’re really ramping up here, with plans to bring in four steel erection crews and add two-to-three more cranes outside the stadium to help out. Considering we’ve got 19,000 pieces of steel to install, we’re targeting a pace of 30 pieces per day per crane—that’s about 120 pieces per day with all four cranes running. If all stays on track, we’re aiming to wrap up steel installation by late November. Getting stared out of the gate we have installed 356 pieces of steel.

The Level 200 steel rakers, which provide support the precast seating bowl pieces, have started to go up on the west side of the stadium. These are the first steel rakers for the project, which is a big deal!
This month we also started to see the steel frame installed on the outside of the stadium that will support our beautiful terrace spaces.

Later this fall, we’ll start seeing the steel cables for the ETFE roof structure rolling in.

Moving people around:

The first escalator frames arrived on site this month, as well! And the elevators themselves will arrive this summer. The new Nissan Stadium will have four times the amount of people movers as the current stadium, including escalators, elevators, etc., so you’ll get to where you’re going in no time.

Oh, and one more stat to throw in: We’re averaging around 830 workers on-site daily right now. It’s a hive of activity out here, and we’re keeping things moving at full speed! 🚧
